City girl comes to small town to make a big impression
“I’m proud of you mama,” says my daughter in a text message. She had just read the article Johnny Lowe did about me in the Hometown Clinton Magazine. Those words are the most precious to me and when I hear them from the lips of my children I know I have done something good in my life.
In this issue of Hometown Clinton, released today, Johnny Lowe wrote an article about me as a writer. I was very flattered when he asked if he could interview me for an article and we spoke for hours at the coffee shop. Johnny is a fascinating person to talk to and it sometimes felt like I was interviewing him.
When I received the text from my daughter I drove to the library and grabbed an issue. Imagine my surprise and delight to see that I have an honored spot in the same magazine issue with an article about the Clinton Arrows football team winning the State Championship and their stars Cameron Akers, Sidney Wells and Jordyn Leonard. We take our football very seriously here.
Though I grew up in a big city, I found the value of a small town and the nurturing and support one can gain from their community. I have come to know and love Clinton Mississippi. I thank the city of Clinton and the Clintonians for all their support.
I hope you find the time to pick up a copy of Hometown Clinton and give it a read. It’s a great issue including an article about Dr. Muse the president of Hinds Community College and a piece on Mississippi College which is a large part of the Clinton community. The local businesses and sponsored groups advertise in this magazine and there are articles all about Clinton Mississippi and the people who live here.
If you have time, come visit Clinton and walk the brick streets under the shade of magnolia trees and smell the wisteria in the air. You too might just get a feel for writing.
Congratulations! My best to you and Johnny. Look forward to seeing you in March.
